Dr. Sarmiento is board certified in Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in critical care medicine. Dr. Sarmiento completed his medical school training, PhD work, and residency training in internal medicine at the UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School at Newark. Following residency Dr. Sarmiento completed a fellowship in critical care at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Sarmiento’s PhD research had focused on pharmacology and drug design and he continued this work with a focus on pulmonary processes while at the NIH. He went on to practice critical care medicine at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda Maryland and was awarded his MBA at George Washington University School of Business in Washington DC. For nearly a decade, Dr. Sarmiento has provided free clinical care to underserved Hispanic communities in Montgomery County, approximately 1-2 days per month, through Mobile Medical Care, a non-profit organization. Dr. Sarmiento has an impressive military career with over a quarter century of service including time as a loadmaster aboard C-5 cargo jets. Dr. Sarmiento currently serves as the Commander for the 113th Medical Group District of Columbia Air National Guard and holds the rank of Colonel in the United States Air Force.
